Best Disney World resorts by travel type

WDW Prep School

Hello -

I wanted to chat Disney World resorts today and which ones are best for different types of parties.

I truly believe there are pros and cons of every resort (we've stayed in them all multiple times) and that it's really a matter of finding the right fit for you.

There are lots of factors to consider - budgets, travel group, number of people - but here are some ideas for different travel groups.

Families with young kids

If we were starting our Disney World travel planning now with young kids, there's 1 place we'd stay (as long as it was in the budget): Art of Animation Resort.

This resort has lots of things going for it: located on the Skyliner, 1 of the best food courts, fun theming, and most rooms are suites (with a kitchenette, 3 beds, and 2 bathrooms).

Adults-only groups

Some of the resorts skew more adult than others. In general, that applies to most of the moderate and deluxe resorts, but there are a couple worth mentioning.

  • Coronado Springs Resort - in particular, we love the Gran Destino Tower section, but the resort overall tends to have more adults-only groups and amenities (including dining) than any other moderate resort
  • Yacht Club Resort - though it's connected to the Beach Club Resort, this resort's theming and guests tend to be more adults than the Beach Club

Solo travelers

I find when traveling alone that the value resorts work best since the layout is a bed with a desk that doesn't feel like a lot of wasted space.

Our favorite of the value resorts is Pop Century since it has better transportation options than the other value resorts.

Budget trips

Another mention for Pop Century Resort as it's the best bang-for-the-buck option at Disney World.

Groups of 5+

Having more than 4 people can be a challenge in Disney World resorts which often max out at 4.

A few unique options:

  • All-Star Music suites - probably the best option for groups on a budget
  • Polynesian Villa Studios - we prefer these rooms over the standard Poly rooms because it provides another bathroom space and kitchenette for the same price
  • Ft Wilderness cabins - a whole cabin, complete with a full kitchen and multiple beds
